I have the privilege of getting to promote one of the top visitor destinations in the country. Carmel was recently named for the 6th straight year as one of the top 10 destinations chosen in a survey by Conde Nast Magazine readers. While # 6 on the list overall, it was #1 in ambiance.
I hope to use this blog to tell you about things to see and do in Carmel, how to plan your wedding in Carmel or how to come to one of the fabulous events held in Carmel every year. Please share your favorite things about Carmel also.
Maybe you have asked…
What has the Chamber done for me lately?
A good question. Here are some things we have done lately:
The Chamber organizes shuttles to the AT&T Golf Tournament.
We assist with article writing and fact-checking by outside periodicals, including the New York Times and AAA.
We provide information on city regulations, saving you time and possible fines.
We attend City Council meetings and represent your interests as business owners.
We answer questions and assist visitors in the Visitor’s Center. Visitors to Carmel should always include a stop here on San Carlos Street just south of 5th Avenue for the latest on local cultural events and more.
We host ribbon cuttings and educational breakfasts on topics you request.
We are privileged to work with local commerce, and greet visitors to Carmel-by-the-Sea and help them have the best experience ever. Whether you visit Carmel for:
A golf vacation
A wedding or commitment ceremony
Anniversary or renewal of vows
Romantic getaway
Bachelor or bachelorette getaway
Spa getaway
Wine tour
Surf holiday
Art gallery tours
Shopping
You won’t be disappointed; millions of visitors yearly can attest to that! Whether you are seeking a rustic cabin or the best in accommodations, a pet-friendly environment, delectable restaurants, galleries, shopping, and activities year-round await. Visit Carmel now!

Carmel Chamber members had a memorable breakfast meeting when Nicole Gustas from the Monterey County Visitors and Convention Bureau shared her extensive knowledge of Web 2.0; what it is and how to use it for your business.
Nicole moved here from Los Angeles. Her background with Mahalo.com gives her vast experience being online; she told me she was required by her job to be active in 28 (I think; I know it was a lot) social sites.
The value of Web 2.0 is not easy to explain, yet Nicole delivered extremely helpful information in an easy to understand format using visual aids. And Nicole is funny! We even had handouts to take with us to implement techniques right away. If you missed this, you really missed out on a lot of useful tips.
This is just one example of how the Carmel Chamber of Commerce helps local businesses. And in turn, businesses are found by visitors to Carmel.
Other mentions include Michael Troutman of DMT Imaging who shot pictures.
Carmel is priveleged to commend our local Executive Leadership Council; the members give the community extra benefit, sponsor events, and help promote Carmel businesses by advising and supporting the Chamber. Members are:
Demi Briscoe, First National Bank of Central California
Rebecca Knight, GuestLife Monterey Bay Magazine
Judy Higgerson, Country Home Care
Don Bentz, Carmel Plaza
Charles Chrietzberg, Monterey County Bank
Cynthia Buhl, Crossroads Shopping Village
Judith Profeta, Alain Pinel Realtors
Tom Williams and Robert Hale, Hale-Williams Interiors
Erik Cushman, Monterey County Weekly

The Council is relatively new, being launched in 2008, but continues to grow. Feel free to contact the Chamber at 624-2522 to learn more. We want to hear from you!
Carmel has welcomed the film crew for Carmel the Movie, which began shooting early this year. And what better place for an intriguing art forgery tale than our Artists’ colony?
The script, written by Carlos Del Rios and being directed by local Lawrence Roeck, features a boy (portrayed by Josh Hutcherson) who is abandoned in Carmel by his mother, and eventually becomes involved with international art forgerers.
Disney is involved in production; other actors include Lauren Bacall, Alfred Molina, Hayden Panettiere, and locals Dina and Scott Eastwood.
Location manager is Peter Newfield. Local businesses can reach Peter at 332-1071 for location information.
The community has been very cooperative, and it is extremely appreciated. Learn more about Carmel the Movie at filmmonterey.com
